Da. 7:7-27; 9:26b-27; 11:36-12:12
Da. 7:7-8, 23-24 A fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and very powerful . . . It crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left . . . This horn had eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth that spoke boastfully.
Da. 9:27a He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.'
Da. 11:36-38 "The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place . . .
Da. 9:26b The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end
Da. 11:39-45 He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god . . . He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood. He will also invade the Beautiful Land. Many countries will fall . . . He will extend his power over many countries.
Da. 9:26c and desolations have been decreed.
Da. 11:39, 44 He will . . . greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price . . . He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt . . .
Da. 7:23 'The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it.
Da. 11:44 He will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many.
Da. 7:21, 25 As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them . . . The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time.
Da. 9:27b In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing [of the temple] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."
Da. 12:1a "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then.
Daniel is silent on the Cosmic Disturbances, but other prophets are consistent in placing them before the Day of the Lord:
Isa. 13:9-10 See, the day of the Lord is coming—a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger—to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light.
Eze. 32:7-8 When I snuff you out, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light. All the shining lights in the heavens I will darken over you; I will bring darkness over your land, declares the Sovereign Lord.
Joel 2:30-31 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
Joel 3:13-15 Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, trample the grapes, for the winepress is full and the vats overflow—so great is their wickedness!' Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. The sun and moon will be darkened, and the stars no longer shine.
Then the Rapture:
Da. 12:1b-3 But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
Olivet Discourse — Mt. 24:3-31
Mt. 24:5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.
Mt. 24:6-7a You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
Mt. 24:7b There will be famines . . .
Mt. 24:7c-8 and pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Mt. 24:9 "Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.
Mt. 24:15-21 "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,' spoken of through the prophet Daniel . . . then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains . . . For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now — and never to be equaled again.
Mt. 24:27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Mt. 24:29 "Immediately after the distress of those days "'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'
Mk. 13:24-25 "But in those days, following that distress, "'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'
Lk. 21:25-26 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
Then the Rapture:
Mt. 24:30-31 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
See also Mk. 13:26-27 & Lk. 21:27-28 “At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
7 Seals — Rv. 6:1-17
1st Seal: Rv. 6:1-2 I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
2nd Seal: Rv. 6:3-4 Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.
3rd Seal: Rv. 6:5-6 I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"
4th Seal: Rv. 6:7-8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
5th Seal: Rv. 6:9-11 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.
6th Seal: Rv. 6:12-17 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"
Then Rapture before 7thSeal/Day of the LORD:
Rv. 7:9, 13-15 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands . . . And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Grapes of Wrath harvested:
Rv. 14:14-20 I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one "like a son of man" with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. Then another angel . . . called in a loud voice . . . "Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe." So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.
Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. Still another angel . . . called in a loud voice . . ."Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth's vine, because its grapes are ripe." The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God's wrath. They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press . . .
2 Th. 2:1-4 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God. [This happens at the mid-point of the 70th week according to Dan. 9:27.]
1 Th. 4:14-17; 5:1-9 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
All are consistent: 1st the Seals, then the Abomination of Desolation at the midpoint, next the Great Tribulation, cut short by Cosmic Disturbances, followed by the Rapture & finally the Day of the LORD’s Wrath.
